Back in March when I signed on to get involved with Get Involved (!) I thought I had a pretty good idea of how everything would transpire. Cute eh?
I mean I understood what the project was about – how we would be profiling wonderful people and creating a networking web site – and I imagined days filled with camera crews rushing about, producers producing, phones ringing, meetings about the design and structure of the site, edit sessions in dark booths, get-togethers with charities and organizations, planning sessions for the launch party, last minute changes to story line-ups… the usual stuff. (I also imagined some fabulous lunches at great restaurants; turns out I was right! Check out the Patrician Diner on King Street east for the best French fries in Toronto!)
But I couldn’t have imagined how much all these people and producers (not the same thing at all!) and organizations would come to mean to me. This is one of those projects where the whole is turning out to be infinitely more interesting, moving, life-changing and life-affirming than the simple sum of its parts.
The stories about people on a genuine mission… people who have literally found their “calling”… people who fight the good fight every day – and do it in complete obscurity. The organizations that work on a tight budget and do so much with so little. The producers and cameramen and research staff who have become close and beloved friends.
Just a little halfway update to let you know Get Involved is getting on. And we’re having a wonderful time!
